ABSTRACT

In recent years, the incidence rate of andrological diseases has shown a significant growth trend. Considering the unavailability of a perfect theoretical system for andrology in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and the complex pathogenesis despite of the limited types of andrological diseases, it is necessary to improve the clinical efficacy of andrological diseases so as to satisfy the needs of patients. Therefore, the China Association of Chinese Medicine (CACM) organized the andrologists of TCM and western medicine and the outstanding young clinicians to discuss the andrological diseases responding specifically to TCM or integrated TCM and western medicine, such as chronic prostatitis, male infertility, benign prostatic hyperplasia, erectile dysfunction, and premature ejaculation, determine their diagnostic criteria in western medicine, and standardize the specifications for TCM diagnosis and treatment based on syndrome differentiation, thus formulating recognized and integrated diagnosis and treatment protocols. Apart from proposing suggestions on the treatment of such andrological diseases with TCM and western medicine, the experts have also figured out the andrological diseases responding specifically to TCM, the optimal intervention time of TCM and western medicine, and the suitable measures including surgery. The resulting consensus helps to better guide the formulation of accurate, personalized, and optimized treatment plans in clinical practice and improve the diagnosis and treatment effects of andrological diseases by giving full play to the advantages of TCM, which will in turn contribute to further innovation and development of TCM.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To assess the efficacy and safety of external application of Chinese herbal drugs (ex-CHD) in the treatment of psoriasis.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Literature regarding randomized clinical trials (RCTs) of psoriasis treatments with ex-CHD, either alone or combined with Western medicine (WM) or physiotherapy, controlled by untreated, placebo or WM treatment were found in electronic databases, including PubMed/MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, China Biology Medicine Disc (CBM), Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang database and VIP database from their inception through July 2011. Study selection, data extraction, quality assessment, and data analyses were conducted according to the Cochrane standards.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>A total of 10 randomized trials (involving 1,435 patients) were included. Because both test and control drugs used in the RCTs were different from each other, the effects can only be described singly and calculated. Regarding the total effective rate for the treatment of psoriasis, ex-CHD in combination with ultraviolet radiation b (UVB) or narrow band ultraviolet radiation b (NB-UVB), which was reported in 6 trials, was superior to UVB alone. One study reported that ex-CHD and externally applied WM had equivalent effects. In another study, ex-CHD showed better results than placebo. However, another two comparisons of ex-CHD and WM (all in combining with oral WM) showed uncertain outcomes. Nine trials reported adverse reactions. Of these, 7 RCTs included statistical analysis. The results showed that the side-effects that occurred in ex-CHD combined with UVB were less severe than those caused by UVB alone, but the incidence was roughly the same as WM.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The evidence supporting the efficacy of ex-CHD with respect to treating psoriasis is quite limited and must be strengthened by high-quality studies.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>Discuss the functional mechanism of treating male infertility with Bushen Shengjing pill (BS).</p><p><b>METHOD</b>Fill the SD rat with adenine so as to injure the germ cell which will produce the model rat with kidney yang deficiency. Measure the activity of SOD and NOS, the amount of NO and MDA in the testicle.</p><p><b>RESULT</b>BS can promote the activity of SOD, reduce the activity of NOS and the amount of NO and MDA.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>BS has the function of protecting the germ cell which is closely related to the function that the pill can promote the activity of SOD, reduce the activity of NOS and the amount of NO and MDA.</p>

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the quality of the portal images acquired by computed radiography(CR)system and conventional screen-film system, respectively. Methods imaging plates (IP)and X-ray films of a home-devised lead phantom with a leakage of 6.45% were acquired, and modulation transfer function(MTF)curves of the both images were measured using edge method.Portal images of 40 nasopharyngeal cancer patients were acquired by IP and screen-film system respectively. Two doctors with similar experience evaluated the damage degree of petrosa] bone, the receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve of CR images and general images were drawn according to two doctors evaluation results. Results The identification frequency of CR system and screen-film system were 1.159 and 0.806 Lp/mm respectively. For doctor one,the area under ROC curve of CR images and general images were 0.802 and 0.742 respectively. For doctor two,the area under ROC curve of CR images and general images were 0.751 and 0.600 respectively. The MTF curve and ROC curve of CR are both better than those of screen-film system. Conclusion The image quality of CR portal imaging is much better than that of screen-film system. The utility of CR in linear accelerator for portal imaging is promising in clinic.
